Antitrust sanctions DR Automobiles with 6 million euro fine: cars declared to be Italian but manufactured in China

The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) imposed a fine of 6 million euros on DR Automobiles and its subsidiary DR Service & Parts S.r.l. for unfair business practices.

It was determined that, since December 2021, the two companies have been disseminating misleading messages through various channels, claiming that DR and EVO branded cars were manufactured in Italy. In reality, these vehicles were manufactured in China, with only minor finishing and completion work done in Italy. This misinformation coincided with a significant increase in sales in the Italian market.

Additionally, the investigation revealed that, since at least 2022, DR Service & Parts S.r.l. and DR Automobiles S.r.l. have not ensured an adequate supply of spare parts or adequate after-sales service through their network of authorized dealers and workshops, also lacking appropriate technical training.

According to the Authority, these actions significantly hindered consumers’ rights.

The companies now have 60 days to communicate the measures they will take to end these unfair practices.

A key reminder to all companies: transparency and accountability are essential to preserving consumer trust.
